Gig Planning

Possible gigs are in rough chronological order. When a gig becomes a definite commitment it is made into a page of its own and moved to the Home page in the Upcoming Gigs list. Before being definite we need to know several things about a gig: the occasion or hosting body, date, time, duration, venue, STUC organiser, event contact, suggested songs.

Weekend workshop sometime during the year

International Womens Day in March

Palm Sunday (contact Peter Murphy)

May Day

PSA Conference

PSA Women’s Conference

Teachers Fed Conference

We could look for gigs at the Marrickville Golf Club, Magic Carpet Ride, Loaded Dog, Politics in the Pub, Eureka commemoration, other choir anniversaries, Unions NSW (Linda Carruthers)

POSSIBLE VENUES FOR PRACTICE OR WORKSHOPS

Pat has registered the choir’s interest in the Booler Community Centre, 25-27 Lambert Street, Camperdown from the City Of Sydney Council. It is a free venue for developing musicians and students. Danny knows how to reserve a time and access the keys.

Danny has booked the OWN premises at 8 Victoria St, Newtown for a previous workshop.

Quakers Friends House (warden Alison on 9698-7158). They have worship on Sundays from 10:45am. Construction noise hazard for the foreseeable future while light rail to Kingsford is being built. Likely cost $25/hour.

Fran tried Fire Fighters but no prospect.
Bill offered his place if it becomes useful.
Mark asked but MUA finally said no. Problem of access after business hours. May change in future.
Mary to explore CPSU and AWU.
Cathy to explore Trades Hall.
Deborah to explore PSA.
Save Addison Road Marrickville for later since awkward transport for some.
Ask Amalina about 52 John St Erskineville (Emoh Ruo)

The position is good, in Pitt St. Between Park and Bathurst.
Double room is $40/hour for a volunteer organisation
Food and beverages aren’t permitted in the Mitchell Theatre. You are welcome to serve food and beverages in the foyer on level 1, this is a shared space, or if you would like to inquire about booking an extra room/s to serve food and beverages.
A single room can hold approx. 20 people based on theatre style (or 10-12 people around a table) and a double room can hold 40 people based on theatre style (or 20-24 people around tables). We can also open the rooms up into a triple room which can hold 60 people based on theatre style (or 34 people around tables). A quadruple room can hold 80 people based on theatre style (or 44 people around tables), however, it is an L-shape. There is no AV inside these rooms but they can be hired for an additional charge.
Please note that you are welcome to move the tables and chairs to suit your event, however it is required that you clean up and return the room to default position once you have finished.
You are also welcome to come in for a free viewing of the rooms during business hours.
